The Prophet ﷺ advised us of everything that is good and bad for us. In this day and age when the Muslim ummah is struggling and suffereing, what guidance can we take from the Prophet ﷺ to safeguard our honour and return back to greatness?
The Prophet's ﷺ companions asked him for a Farewell Advice and, interestingly, he gave an advice that we may see to be quite unusual considering the current circumstances
In this advice, he mentioned something for our safety both in this life and the next: The Prophet ﷺ said, 'I advise you to have Taqwa of Allah swt, and to hear and obey the ruler that has been placed in authority over you, even if he is a slave'. By this, he meant even if the ruler is one who is unfit for the job. How does one like this get into power except through tyranny and oppression? This shows us that he must be a bad person. Regardless, he ﷺ still commanded us to obey him.
We find that the first part of the advice was to help us in the next life, and the second part was to help us in this life. This sounds shocking right? How can obeying the ruler be a means of safety for us in this world?
Let me share with you a bit of history. Over the last 10 years or so, the Arab Spring happened. This was a rebellion which happened in the Muslim lands including Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Syria and others. Question. What's common about these countries? They are all SUFFERING. Poverty is ripe and they are in absolute dire need. This transpired from the Arab Spring!
They rebelled against their rulers and in this rebellion, the rulers flipped the country upside down.
Why is this important? Nowadays, the people have completely misunderstood this concept and they encourage rebellion against the Muslim ruler, and it is one of the signs of the deviated sect!
In the next live course, we will learn about this concept of following the Muslim ruler, how to revive the ummah, how to bring about a good Muslim ruler and the doubts some people bring about this.
